1 page, 5.5 x 8.5 inches, sketch for the second scene of the opera "Weep Torn Land," St. Louis water front, 18 bars of music with the lyrics for the men's choir: "Milling crowds of people...Loading boats, moving cargo, etc. Among the crowded pass...a lively group of French Canadians..." No place, no date, circa 1965. One tiny tan stain; otherwise fine.
American composer who studied with Nadia Boulanger, Alban Berg, and Roger Sessions. His students included George Crumb, Robert Ashley, and a whole generation of first-class classically-trained artists.
