Beautifully detailed chart of the Bosphorus from the Sea of Marmara to the Black Sea. Shows depths, navigational notes, the location of buoys, and some inland routes and towns. Soundings in fathoms, relief in hachures, and hand colored red and yellow paint indicates lighthouses. Map insets include the Beikos, Umur and Buyukdere Bays and the Golden Horn and three topographical cross section views show "clearing marks". A tab at lower left extends the coastline southwest of Istanbul. Based on French Naval sources from 1854 with English additions by Captain W.J.L. Wharton. Published under the Superintendence of Rear Admiral G.H. Richards and distributed by chart seller J.D. Potter. Some chipping along edges, crease to top and bottom.
