The margins are dampstained throughout including the margins of the plates and the Mexico portion of the map. Nevada County, California was an early mining center, including gold mining. Pages 170-206 describe the various mines in operation. Also there is an earlier chapter on the discovery of gold at Sutter's mill in nearby El Dorado County. Nevada City, the county seat, was once the third largest city in California. This work details the railroads, roads, bridges and public works of the county.
