1939. 2 full pages on pictorial letterhead, single spaced, in response to a reader (whose letter is enclosed) praising Van Loon's book "Our Battle" but objecting to his referring to Jews as "Orientals". Old Greenwich, Conn., 16 March, 1939. With original mailing envelope. fine.
Van Loon is scathing in his reply "...for God's sake let us drop all the chips on all the shoulders...I have spent eight months doing nothing but trying to help Jews get out from the unspeakable Nazi rule... I have had to publish OUR BATTLE after overcoming the unwillingness of the publishers to print such a book...and when I preach war upon the swine in Germany...I get flooded with letters denouncing me for my militaristic inclinations.....and I am no longer interested in comma's nor two sentences from an entire book...."
