Kircher (1601-1680) was a Jesuit scholar, geographer, traveler, mathematician and engraver. Mappa Fluxus was one of the earliest charts to depict ocean currents and has little political detail, except Mexico's floating city. The chart features tidal flows and currents of the ocean as well as rivers, lakes and mountains of the Americas including Lake Titicaca and the Andes. From "Mundus Subterraneus".
