Sandringham, Norfolk: 1924. unbound. 2 pages (front and back) on crested "York Cottage" letterhead, 7 x 4.5 inches, Sandringham, Norfolk, October 26, 1924. This letter, written entirely in the hand of Queen Mary, contains an extremely rare reference to her relative and childhood friend Marie Lippe -- a German dutchess who had created a huge royal scandal at Sterlitz Court when she was found to be with child yet unmarried. In part: "...I had a letter from Marie Lippe a few days ago, I think she and Jutta met at Berchtesgaden during the summer months, for Jutta has not found a permanent home which is a great pity...Mary R." Lippe's association with the future Queen was thus curtailed. One horizontal fold; remnants of a printed letter on page 2. Good condition.
