On March 15, 1697, Hannah Duston and her one week old baby were captured by Indians in Haverhill, Massachusetts. For several days she was forced to march through the snow without shoes. During an evening after reaching the Indians' village, Hannah Duston escaped by murdering nine Indians. She returned that same night and scalped them.
