Sullivan" by the American Ambassador to Iran and future hostage, responding to the recipient's questions on the current political situation in Iran, predicting that there may be danger ahead because of the hostile political climate there. In part: "Thank you for your letter asking my views on several matters concerning the current political situation in Iran...Unfortunately, nobody has clear-cut answers...The Iranian people are entering into a period of deep divisions with a political struggle that may go on for some time. Unfortunately, since there are a great many weapons loose in the society, there is a genuine danger that the resolution of these political differences may be accompanied by significant violence."
