Each card has 3 paper-thin matted wood samples -- the transverse, radial, and tangential cross sections for each type of wood. (the samples are very fragile and some have hairline cracks in the grain). The samples are housed in the original blind-stamped folding green cloth sleeves inside a matching slipcases with metal clasps (slipcases are edgeworn, particularly at spine ends; 2 of the clasps are broken). Vol. 4 is 1894 1st edition. 1 sample is nicked and 1 is missing a larger chunk.
