Robert Atkyns was one of the Judges of the Court of Common-Pleas who later became the Speaker of the House of Lords. Lord William Russell was implicated in the Rye House Plot to assassinate Charles II, tried and executed. Atkyns contributed legal advice to Lord Russell's defence.
