"The British naturalist Daubeny came to America to study its botanical and geological features...He traveled in the North until the last days of the year 1837. During January, 1838, he traveled from Baltimore to Charleston, S.C. February was spent in Cuba. Re-entering the United States at New Orleans, he went by boat and horseback to Pittsburgh...and then turned southward again for a tour of the Virginia springs.
