1 page on personal letterhead, 8.5 x 5.5 inches, no place, July 7, 1986. In this letter, Hawkins describes how he recorded "Susie Q," his No. 1 hit song on Checker Records from 1958, in full: "One of the main things I remember about the 'Susie Q' session was the excitement and opportunity I had to record. We cut "Susie Q" at KWKH radio station between the hours of 1:00 am & 4:00 am because that was the time the station transferred from one tower to another." Hawkins, being superstitious, never signed his letters, always using his printed name on letterheads. Accompanied by an original 45 record of "Susie-Q" -- a collector's item on its own. Small red stain on the letter caused by an adhesive on the maroon label of the record; one vertical fold. Still very good condition.
