Milan: Carlo Canadelli, 1843. 4to, original white boards heavily decorated in gilt (boards are well-worn at all edges, spines a bit chipped; very slight internal foxing). Beautiful extra illustrated title pages printed in blue, green, red, and gold. Text within decorative borders. Illustrated with 23 very high quality engravings and aquatints after paintings and statuary by Mauri, Ricci, Rovida, Sacchi, Cantu, Ciabianca, Villani and others. Tissue guards. (corners of cloth are lightly dampstained from close contact with steam radiator with pages somewhat effected in margins; dust wrapper spine is mis-aligned). Boston: Godine, (1990). First American edition. Very sturdy and usable but overall a very good(-) copy.

With approximately 100 illustrations throughout, many in color or tinted; including an original lithographic portrait of Riviere by Steinlen, and a fine heliogravure reproduction of of an etching tited "L'Enterrement aux Parapluies." 176pp. Short thick 4to, wrappers, cover is an original blind stamped illustration by George Auriol (light foxing and small paper damage on cover; neat repairs to spine and joints; contents quite clean with minimal foxing).
