In this rare and important letter to a teacher, Romulo reveals his peace-keeping philosophy, in part: "My receipt of your letter brought up to consciousness a strong conviction I had always held: that man is immortal and is never wasted. This fact was pressed upon my somewhat youthful skepticism during the Second World War at the last stand of the Filipino-American soldiers...Indeed, heroism comes from the fact that even the victor belongs always to the spoils."
