Description: 1 pages (p. 827) IN: The Lancet, vol. 2, Nov. 8. Tall 8vo, modern wrappers. London, 1884. First Edition. Whole week offered entire.

Comments: By experimental removal of the thyroid Horsley produced artificial myxoedema, confirming previous work by Reverdin and others. At the time his results were regarded as proof that total thyroidectomy produces operative myxoedema, but some of the symptoms he described are now known to have been due to removal of the parathy- roids. I couldn't believe how fast you sent me this wonderful item! I didn't expect it to have anything on children's cookery (my focus), but because Juliet Corson is SO important, I bought it. What a surprise to find a "Boys' and Girls' Kitchen" column, and a tiny personal fact about J's childhood. I hit the lottery, so to speak. I'm ordering tons of diamonds to fall from the sky on you some lovely warm day. Don't I wish I could do that... - Barbara Abbott
