Hammer (1858-1934), Chief Engineer with Edison, first suggested and used radium for cancer and tumor treatment. In addition he invented luminous radium preparations used for watch dials, clocks, etc. His work preceded Mme. Curie's Recherches sur les substances radioactives by a year.
