Description: 8vo, ix, 320pp., marbled boards, rebacked.

Comments: First Edition. From 1815, Burrows devoted himself entirely to the treatment of insanity and was the proprietor of a private asylum in Clapham. The above work was described as a "well reasoned statistical study." Burrows demonstrated that the reported increase in insanity was more apparent than real and ascribed this apparent increase to "the powerful interest the subject of mental derangement has excited" as well as to the increasing numbers sent to asylums. Statistical folding chart, a fine copy. Wellcome II, p. 277.

Thank you for your kind response. As it turns out, I was able to visit the Argosy on Tuesday. In fact, I arrived shortly after opening and stayed most of the morning, making a number of purchases. I notice that you wrote to me a 10:34 AM, meaning that I was in the store when you sent me an email. One of life's many coincidences... Again, many thanks for your courteous response. Best regards, until my next visit! - Phillip R.
