Description: 1842. Compiled by H.E.S. de B. 1845- 46. 22 fine engravings 13 hand colored, inserted. 306pp. 4to. bound in contemporary tartan plaid paper covered boards with leather spine. (Barbazan): August 22nd, 1846. Very good (+).

Comments: Written in a small, neat and quite readable hand. A collection of stories set in French occupied Algiers, attributed by the author- compiler to various sources: Ben Jacoub, Captain Maurod, Hadji Bahram, Commandant d'Astarac etc, In the "Preface," and introduction the writer gives a clear explanation of the political climate of the Near East at this time. These tales are purportedly true, and were apparently taken down as they were told to him by the author over a period of several years. They are enhanced by the insertion of 22 fine engravings, 13 of which have been exquisitely colored by hand. We have checked both the British Museum and the NUC and can find no record of this work ever having been published.
