Comments: Cushing G 196. Reynolds 1632. A fine work by America's then leading expert on the subject. By 1836, Gerhard (1809-1872) was already recognized as one of Louis' most brilliant American students and as a leading authority in his own right. The work became the basis of part of Gerhard's clinical lectures on the subject at the university of Penn., where he has been described as a very sought after teacher in the field. He is the author of the most authoritative American work on diseases of the chest (1842) prior to Flint. (Garrison). This copy belonged to Henry Massie Bullitt (1817- 1880), teacher of medicine at St. Louis Medical College, and elsewhere. Bullitt taught in five medical schools, two of which he founded.

I wanted you to know that my book arrived in about 3 days in perfect condition. I am not an expert in grading book conditions, but to call this book very good with very good dust jacket is a true understatement. This book is pristine and immaculate. The book was wrapped in tissue, then wrapped in corrugated stuff and then wrapped in brown wrapping paper. I buy a lot of books on line and have never received a book so carefully prepared for shipping. It is refreshing to get such professional attention and I hope I can find more books at your place. - Daniel
