Description: 4 pages on personal letterhead, 7.25 x 4.25, Torquay, December 17, 1860. In this letter, Shaftesbury discusses the political impact of farmers, in part: "...if the Farmer is very great and the influence of his example still greater, and he is constantly on the spot, he can, and he does, centralize the efforts & counteract the wishes of the landed Proprietors..." Very good condition.
