Description: War-date partially printed document signed -- a "REPORT of Persons and Articles employed and hired at in (sic) the field Ga. during the month of August, 1864, by Capt. H.H. Wilson, A.A., Quartermaster U.S. Army," signed by Geary as commanding officer. 1 page, oblong folio (docketed on verso), 13 x 16.5 inches. Georgia, September 10, 1864. Excellent condition.

Comments: Geary was an American general and politician; first mayor of San Francisco (1850); governor of Kansas (1856-57) and Pennsylvania (1866-73); wounded 3 times in Mexican and Civil wars; hero of Gettysburg and Sherman's March.

Thanks for the note. I'm actually in NY for a few days and was hoping to get there but have to head back tomorrow. I've been stopping by the Argosy for over 60 years starting when my mother would take me there after shopping at Bloomingdale's and lunch at a long gone restaurant on the east side of Lexington between 58th and 59th that was torn down to make way for Alexander's department store; that is gone too, of course. - Peter H.
