Description: 2 pages (front and back), 7.5 x 4.5 inches, Geo. Town, (Washington, D.C.), February 7, no year, circa 1820. In this note, Decatur invites lawyer A.B. Hasbrouck to tea in order to discuss a claim submitted to Congress, in part: "I shou'd feel very grateful to you if you wou'd have the goodness to afford me an opportunity to converse with you upon the subject of the Claim which I have submitted to Congress...I hope you will do me the favor to come and take a social cup of Tea with me on Friday next..." Small holes and slight tears repaired with tape on page 2. Very good(-) condition.

Comments: American naval officer who led a daring exploit in burning Philadelphia, which had been captured by Tripolitans (1804); commanded United States and President in the War of 1812. The phrase "Our country, right or wrong!" is attributed to him. Note reads:
