Rare Signed Cabinet Card While in Utah

1890.

Exceptional 6.5 x 4.25-inch image by Mormon pioneering photographer Heber Harris Thomas, taken after his missionary duties in England, circa 1890, with a "2457 Washington Avenue, Ogden, Utah" imprint, depicting the bigoted doctor dressed in a suit with spectacles, a short haircut, mustache and goatee, boldly signed on the back: "George William Perkins of Ogden Utah." Near fine.

American Physician and Surgeon who spent 18 months as the House Surgeon in Boston City Hospital. He left Boston in July 1886 to become Head Surgeon of the Union Pacific Railway Co. headquartered in Ogden, Utah. In addition to his work for the Railways, he set up a private practice in Ogden and assisted other area physicians by performing their surgeries. He was especially known for his hatred of Mormons and the Church of Jesus Christ Later Day Saints and publicly stated, "My only part taken in politics has been my vote to help to take down the treasonous hierarchy known as the Mormon Church." Needless to say, he would not treat members of the Mormon religion.
