Frontispiece portrait of Washington. xiv, [2], 303pp. 8vo, contemporary calf, red leather spine label, front cover detached, back hinge cracked, but holding, calf lightly worn, most pages with light foxing or browning, including light foxing to portrait. New York: G. Robinson and J. Bull, 1796.

Comments: Includes letters to Sir Henry Clinton, Lord Cornwallis, Sir Guy Carleton, Marquis de la Fayette, and the Count de Grasse. On the front flyleaf, there is an early 19th century full-page inscription by another hand, of the text of a letter by George Washington, originally written on March 3, 1797. In this letter, Washington claims some of the letters printed in this book were forgeries. "First seven letters are Tory forgeries previously printed as Letters from General Washington to several of his friends..." Howes W-133. Howes attributes the forgeries to John Randolph or Rev. John Vardill.
