Item #266375 Grouping of three autographed items. FRENCH LITERARY FIGURES.

Grouping of three autographed items

1916.

Two of the three items are autographed letters signed "Barres" by Maurice Barres (1862 - 1923), a French author and politician. Both letters are 1 page, 8vo, Chamber of Deputes, relating to inquiries concerning an American publisher. In the first, dated October 12, 1916, written to Monsieur Chinard, Barres requests information on two or three American projects on publications -- a review and two other papers. He humorously concludes with "Three questions...three thanks." In the second letter, dated October 24, 1916, possibly to the same recipient, he inquires about an American publisher and concludes: "What magic word might you say?" Also included is an autographed quotation signed by Jules Michelet (1798 - 1884), a French historian and writer, 1 page, 8 x 5 inches, Florence, November 28, 1870, translated in full: "America...daughter of Europe...is today her mother in democracy --- she gives birth to liberty." All items are in very good condition.
