Comments: This miniature map is considered to be the first separate map of Zealand in Demark. Beautifully depicts the island with ships sailing in the North Sea amongst Sea Monsters. Important cities are beautifully depicted in profile. Also includes a shield in the bottom right. The map comes from Henric Petri's 1561 edition of Johann Honter's "Rudimenta Cosmographia". This edition includes twelve new miniature maps of islands. This particular map is one of those twelve. The title appears across the face of the map. In good condition. Heinrich (Henri) Petri, stepson of Professor Sebastian Munster, was a map publisher and printer in Basel, Switzerland in the 16th century. After being honored by Kaiser Karl V in 1556, he adopted the name Henricpetri. He was succeeded by his son Sebastian Henric Petri. This is a beautiful example of his work.

Many thanks for your help... Over the years I have spent many happy hours at the Argosy - mostly among your old maps. Whenever we have taken a trip, we have bought an old map of the country or area to remind us of where we've been. We have a whole wall of maps from the Argosy. As well as a number of your small prints of areas in the USA. They make wonderful presents for friends and family too - also some of your older books on special subjects. So you can see I am a big fan of the Argosy! - Katherine M.
