Description: 1 page, 9.5 x 6 inches, Mobile, Alabama, April 12, 1885. Signed "Richard H. Wilmer" in his difficult-to-read handwriting, responding to an inquiry concerning church policy, in part: "...I report that it is out of my power to join the information sought in your letter of the 6th instant. Right Reverend Dr. Perry, Bishop, is his holiness of the American Church..." Natural folds; near fine condition.

Comments: The second bishop of Alabama in the Episcopal Church. He was the only bishop to be consecrated by the Episcopal Church in the Confederate States of America, which was done on March 6, 1862 in Richmond Virginia. As a staunch secessionist and slaveholder, he was a favorite among the hierarchy of the CSA including the General staff.

You've got yourself one happy customer at this end, folks. I've been looking for another copy of "West of the Indus" for nearly twenty years (I know, it's such a cultural wasteland out here in the provinces), and I never expected to find one with a dust jacket. I am amazed. Thank you so much. I've enjoyed many books over the years, but this one has always been one of my favorites. Now if I can just figure out how to share it with my friends without losing it... - Paul B.
