Author was a physician, who served as British consul to Callao in Peru starting in April 22, 1871. His consular duties centered on shipping. Hutchinson traveled to many archaeological sites in Peru, including graveyards of pre-Columbian natives of Peru. He was a founding member of the Society of the Arts in Peru.
