Description: Rare documented 8 x 10-inch photograph depicting Ellington at a press conference at the Crystal Ball Room in Fargo, North Dakota, on November 7, 1940. Photographed by Jack Towers and reproduced from his original negative. Near fine condition.

Comments: Towers is considered one of the foremost experts at re-mastering early jazz recordings for definitive collections by the Smithsonian Institution. He won a Grammy Award in 1980 for a recording he made of a Duke Ellington concert at the Crystal Ball Room in Fargo, North Dakota, on November 7, 1940. He recorded the show with a portable disc cutter using three microphones (creating a series of acetates). When released, almost 40 years later, it gave audiences a rare glimpse into the excitement of Ellington's early live performances.

I couldn't believe how fast you sent me this wonderful item! I didn't expect it to have anything on children's cookery (my focus), but because Juliet Corson is SO important, I bought it. What a surprise to find a "Boys' and Girls' Kitchen" column, and a tiny personal fact about J's childhood. I hit the lottery, so to speak. I'm ordering tons of diamonds to fall from the sky on you some lovely warm day. Don't I wish I could do that... - Barbara Abbott
