Description: 1 page on onionskin paper, 11 x 8.5 inches, Beverly Hills, January 30, 1981. Signed "Melvin Brooks" at the conclusion of a typed letter signed by famed Broadway producer Leonard Sillman, requesting an extension of material written by Brooks for inclusion in "Leonard Sillman's New Faces" (1982), in part: "This would encompass Broadway, off-Broadway and Regional Theatre at six percent of the gross, and a flat fee of Seven hundred and fifty dollars per week divided pro-rata among the authors for Summer Stock." Exactly 30 years before this letter was written, Sillman launched a Broadway production called "New Faces of 1952" -- a musical revue with comedy skits. It ran for nearly a year and was then made into a motion picture in 1954. It helped jumpstart the careers of several young performers including Paul Lynde, Alice Ghostley, Eartha Kitt, Carol Lawrence, and a virtual unknown performer/writer named Melvin Brooks. For the 1982 Broadway season, Sillman planned to re-stage "New Faces of 1952." He leased the original material from Brooks and was ready to start rehearsals when he died suddenly. Joseph Patton completed the project by directing an off-Broadway version in 1982. Fine condition.

Comments: American film director, producer, actor, and comedian whose career has spanned more than sixty years.

Hello. Many thanks for the 2 volumes which arrived this morning. They are outstanding examples of this scarce chess periodical and I am very pleased with them. - Michael C.
