Description: 2 pages, 11 x 8.5 inches, United States Senate, Special Assistant to Senator Jesse Helms, North Carolina, November 6, 1989. In this letter, Meredith clarifies the issues that made him an employee of arguably the most conservative Senator in U.S. history, in part: "...Now that you know where I am, I wanted you to know what I am doing and why. My primary role here is to do research, gather facts and information and provide assistance to Senator Helms of North Carolina in his efforts to provide good solid legislation for the American people and the future of their children. Senator Jesse Helms represents the seventh largest Black constituency in the United States and wants to provide the best possible representation to them as to the entire Black population. The thing that has impressed me most about Senator Helms...is his total commitment to preserving the traditional family and maintaining high moral standards based on Christian morality. He is constantly criticized for his unbending resistance to the Liberal Agenda, which seeks to destroy these traditional and moral values. He is right, and I admire him for it. That is why I'm here..." Horizontal folds; paperclip impression in the upper left corners. Very good condition.

Comments: Civil Rights Movement figure best known for being the first African-American student admitted to the University of Mississippi, amidst much hostility and violence.

You've got yourself one happy customer at this end, folks. I've been looking for another copy of "West of the Indus" for nearly twenty years (I know, it's such a cultural wasteland out here in the provinces), and I never expected to find one with a dust jacket. I am amazed. Thank you so much. I've enjoyed many books over the years, but this one has always been one of my favorites. Now if I can just figure out how to share it with my friends without losing it... - Paul B.
