Description: 1 page, 10.5 x 7.25 inches, Kennebunkport, Maine, [docketed in pencil 1923], asking the recipient not to send books to be autographed to Kennebunkport because they are leaving in a few days, in part: "...if you will forward them after mid December, Mr. Tarkington will sign them if he is able to. Perhaps it would be better for you to write me before sending. My husband's eyes are in a very critical state and he can scarcely see at all. We are going to a great specialist from here and we are hoping for a partial restoration at least. Mr. Tarkington sends you his cordial greetings and deep appreciation for your interest in his dilemma..." Note: 1923 was the worst year in the life of Booth Tarkington. Besides losing his eyesight at a very rapid pace, he also suffered the loss of his only child Laurel (pneumonia), who died at the age of 16. Two horizontal folds; very good(+) condition.

I flew to NY from CA a couple of weeks ago, and while walking 59th, happened upon Argosy... Amazing! I had very little wiggle room in my time between meetings, but I made sure I came back the next morning, also. I'm so impressed, and reading about the family history of the store impressed me even more. Thank you for having such a marvelous bastion of knowledge there in the city! I was truly impressed. - Wil S.
