Description: Map. Engraving with hand coloring. Image measures 18 x 20.25". Sheet measures 21 x 25".

Comments: This significant map of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland by John Cary also includes Prince Edward Island and part of New Brunswick. The coasts are extremely detailed, labeled in a manner such that one might imagine the words floating off into the surrounding water. This attention to accuracy reflects Cary's dedication to keeping his maps up-to-date. The map was originally published in "Cary's New Universal Atlas." It is in good condition with wide marigns. Some discoloration along center steam and offsetting in the upper left corner. John Cary (1754-1835) was a British cartographer and engraver. His highly detailed and accurate maps mark a turning point from the earlier emphasis on decoration toward a greater emphasis on information. This map is a fine example of Cary's work.
