Comments: This map published by the United States General Land Office shows the impact of treaties on the nation's borders from the Revolutionary War to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. In addition to the established states, the map shows the territories of New Mexico, California, Oregon, Minnesota and Nebraska. Hand-colored lines show the boundaries of the nation established by various treaties, as per a key in the upper right of the map: red for the Treaty of Paris, orange for the Treaty of 1846 with Great Britain, yellow for the Treaty of 1795 with Spain, green for the treaty of 1803 with France, purple for the Treaty of 1819 with Spain, and blue for the Treaty of 1848 with Mexico. The map is flanked on either side by tables detailing geographical information. The map appeared in various government documents of the period relating to the Mexican-American War and the California Gold Rush, including published speeches by then-President James Polk to Congress. It is in good condition with deluxe margins. Original folds as issued. Overall toning is pleasing. The U.S. General Land Office (GLO) was established in 1812 to oversee the surveying, platting, and sale of public domain lands in the western United States. In 1785, it established the Public Land Survey System. The GLO functioned until 1849, when it was subsumed under the Department of the Interior. This map offers a fascinating view of the development of the western United States.

I have just received the copy of I, Robot Screenplay published by Easton Press and signed by Harlan Ellison which I ordered just after the middle of June 2003. The book arrived in the condition in which it was sent and I am glad that I ordered it from you. Will certainly order from Argosy Book Store again in future! - Billy Dinwoodie, Johannesburg South Africa
