Description: 1 page, 10.5 x 8 inches, New York City, April 24, 1945. Written on the eve of his leaving the Presidency of Columbia University after serving for 45 years. Marked "Personal" to Frederic R. Courdert, powerful international attorney and political power-broker, in full: "What you said so warmly yesterday at the meeting of the Trustees moved me greatly and I want you to know how profoundly I appreciated every word. Our life-long friendship has meant much to me and it will grow closer and warmer until the end." Natural folds and faint discoloration at the bottom; very good(-) condition.

Comments: Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and President of Columbia University from 1902 - 1945.
