Description: Exceedingly rare 2 x 3.5-inch admission card to "Admit One to Press Preview at the Hayden Planetarium, 81st Street and Central Park West, 5 o'clock P. M., September 25, 1935, Doors Close 5 o'clock Sharp." Boldly signed on the back by Charles Hayden (American financier and philanthropist who was the benefactor of the Planetarium through an endowment of $150,000 to the American Museum of Natural History in 1934) and Richard E. Byrd (pioneering American aviator and Polar explorer). This event was a gala affair and admission was by invitation only. It marked the very first time the doors to the Planetarium were opened to guests. The public, however, would not be allowed through the gates until October 3, 1935. Near fine condition.
