Description: 9.5 x 7 inches, no place, no date, circa 1835 -- a preliminary drawing of what would become his famous portrait of artist and friend Paul Delaroche, later reproduced as a lithograph by de Kaeppelin. The back contains a small, faint, detailed vignette of what appears to be an incomplete arched bridge with buildings in the distance. One small closed tear in the left margin; slight foxing; faint paperclip stain in the upper left corner. Very good(-) condition.
Comments: French painter and illustrator who holds a distinguished place among those members of the Romantic School. He also worked in wood cut and lithographic crayon and is known for his passionate portraits in that medium.Signed: Y
