Description: 1 page, 8 x 5 inches, Greenwich, Connecticut, December 12, no year but accompanied by the original postmarked envelope from 1944. This letter was written to an American serviceman and fan of his writing, in part: "...I am sorry I do not have a First Edition of The Golden Years, I fear the original volumes are completely sold out. You might have better luck in a small store somewhere - if there is less demand there is always the chance that a copy might be left over. I am glad my writings have helped to relieve the monotony of Army life...and I wish you a speedy return to the ways of peace when final victory is won..." One horizontal fold; near fine condition.

Comments: Scottish physician and novelist. His best known works include "The Citadel," "Keys of the Kingdom" and "The Green Years," all of which were adapted to film.

Many thanks for your prompt reply informing me that the book is now set aside for the library. It's great that you are willing and able to send an invoice with the book -- it makes life a little easier when you work for a very large institution! Thanks again. - Anne R.
