Description: Map. Uncolored engraving. Image measures 23.75" x 17.75".

Comments: This beautiful map of the East Indies includes the Malay Peninsula, the Philippines, and the north coast of Australia, depicting the region when it was the center of the VOC (Dutch) trading network. Sand banks, inlets, ports, towns, villages, are labeled in Italian. The title cartouche in the lower left shows winged cherub mermaids emerging from the water carrying the title in a banner format. Creative engraved line surrounds the island nations. The map is in good condition, with a minor stain near centerfold and lower left corner repaired. Blank verso. Vincenzo Coronelli (1650-1718) was a Franciscan priest and renowned mathematician and cartographer. He was appointed official Cosmographer to the Venetian Republic in 1685 and founded the world's earliest geographic society, L'Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti. He was known best for his globes, which he made for prominent rulers such as Louis XIV and the Duke of Parma. This map is an excellent example of his work.

I have just received the copy of I, Robot Screenplay published by Easton Press and signed by Harlan Ellison which I ordered just after the middle of June 2003. The book arrived in the condition in which it was sent and I am glad that I ordered it from you. Will certainly order from Argosy Book Store again in future! - Billy Dinwoodie, Johannesburg South Africa
