Description: 1 page on "Confederate States of America, War Department" letterhead, 10 x 8 inches, Richmond, Virginia, July 10, 1861. Signed "LP Walker" by the first Confederate States Secretary of War and the man who issued orders to fire upon Fort Sumter, informing a confederate army colonel that he has been appointed Assistant Quartermaster by confederate president Jefferson Davis, in part: "...You are requested to signify your acceptance or non-acceptance of said appointment: and should you accept you will sign before a magistrate, the oath of office herewith, and forward the same with your letter of acceptance to this Department..." Horizontal folds; small pencil notation in the lower left corner. Very good condition.
