Description: 1 page, 9.5 x 8 inches, no place, July 15, 1879. In this letter, Garland mentions the yellow fever epidemic that devastated Tennessee in 1879, in part: "...We are all in the alarm about the yellow fever at Memphis. It looks very ugly again..." Small tear along one of the folds; another small tear repaired with tape on the back; small chip in the top margin caused by a damp-stain on the back -- still a handsome piece in very good(-) condition.

Comments: American lawyer and politician; Confederate Congressman (1861-65); Governor of Arkansas (1874-76); U.S. Senator (1877-85); U.S. Attorney General (1885-89).
