Description: Introduction by Dachine Rainer. Illustrated by Chwast with 9 hand-colored linocuts on 12 french-fold pages. Slim oblong 8vo, decorated patterned paper boards with a printed title label on upper cover; plain green cloth spine. New York The 6x9 Press, 1957. First edition. Boards are just a touch darkened at edges, still a near fine copy of this scarce book.

Comments: An early work by Chwast, an AIGA Medal recipient and major influence on modern graphic design and typography. In this work, Chwast illustrates nine battles -- from Marathon in 490 B.C. to Ypres in the first World War -- accompanied by quotations which reflect his pacifist philosophy.

I couldn't believe how fast you sent me this wonderful item! I didn't expect it to have anything on children's cookery (my focus), but because Juliet Corson is SO important, I bought it. What a surprise to find a "Boys' and Girls' Kitchen" column, and a tiny personal fact about J's childhood. I hit the lottery, so to speak. I'm ordering tons of diamonds to fall from the sky on you some lovely warm day. Don't I wish I could do that... - Barbara Abbott
