Sketch of Bunker Hill Battle
Publisher: Monroe & Francis
Date Published: 1826
Description: Map. Engraving. Image measures 12.25 x 18.5".
Comments: This plan of the battle of Bunker Hill was based on the plan of Thomas Hyde Page, who served as the field asssistant to General Howe during the action. Although the battle resulted in a British victory and loss of control of Boston, the campaign was considered one of the first steps towards American Independence. The map shows cannon fire, lines of attack, British landing places, and British ships in the Charles River. Charlestown is noted as burned down. The map was published in Swett's "History of Bunker Hill, With a Plan." The map is in good condition for an item of its scarcity. Slight splitting at original folds and close right margin. A fine document for anyone interested in the Revolutionary War.Language: English
