Comments: Bemelmans was an Austria-Hungary-born American writer and illustrator best remembered for his series of "Madeline" picture books. Metzl was an acclaimed artist best known for his poster and postage stamp designs created in his Chicago studio. Starting in the 1930s, he collaborated with Bemelmans creating advertisement posters and other art-related projects. Prior to this letter being offered for sale, nobody ever questioned whether or not Bemelmans illustrated "Madeline in London." It is now evident that he did not.Signed: Y
