Illustrated with 100 engravings on steel and wood. 300 pages, 8vo, ornate gilt-stamped green cloth (expertly re-cased; inner hinges repaired; previous owner's bookplate on a preliminary blank page; some foxing on the engravings; several pages with small tears). London: Tilt and Bogue, 1842. First edition. Good condition.

Comments: Inscribed on the half-title page: "To T L Greenwood with the compliments of Geo Cruikshank Apr. 13th 1842." There is also a one-page, handwritten note pasted to the front free endpaper, in full: "My Dear Sir, Mr. Ainsworth has the M S. - I shall see him in a day or two and will then communicate with you - I beg your acceptance of an 'omnibus' and remain yours sincerely, George Cruikshank."

Thanks for the note. I'm actually in NY for a few days and was hoping to get there but have to head back tomorrow. I've been stopping by the Argosy for over 60 years starting when my mother would take me there after shopping at Bloomingdale's and lunch at a long gone restaurant on the east side of Lexington between 58th and 59th that was torn down to make way for Alexander's department store; that is gone too, of course. - Peter H.
