Description: 2 pages (front and back), 10.5 x 7.25 inches, Isington Mill, January 1, 1970. Signed "Montgomery of Alamein," this letter states his desire to learn about the proposed rehabilitation of the chapel at Lameing College, in part: "...Many calls are made on me these days; all of the cathedrals seem to be falling down, and the Public Schools all appeal for money! Being a Lameing schoolboy with you; I would like to see what type Lameing is producing in these days of student unrest, drugs, and so on...I must put you right on one point. I did not have my H.Q. in the college. That was at Steyming, in a house to the north of the Downs. The college was empty and I put one of my battalions in it - the Royal Ulster Rifles - and I took Winston Churchill there to see them on July 2, 1940..." Natural folds; very good(+) condition.
