Description: 1 page, 9 x 7 inches, Broadlands, January 21, 1967. In this letter, Mountbatten declines to write the preface to a book on the activities of the Order of St. John, in part: "...Immediately after the war Sir Winston Churchill advised me never to write a foreword for any book other than those which directly concerned me such as accounts of operations under my orders...It would seem to me that somebody like Lady Brecknock should write the foreword since she was not only a cousin of my wife but succeeded her as Superintendent-in-Chief..." Two punch-holes in the left margin; otherwise very good condition.

Comments: British statesman and naval officer best known as Mountbatten of Burma.
