Brooklandwood: 1819.

3 pages (front and back), 10 x 7.75 inches, Brooklandwood, January 17, 1819. Written to General H. Welles concerning the political atmosphere and the economic situation of the country, in part: "Mr. L.A Jones, having called on me like a wandering Jew...offers me an opportunity of writing to you...with further communication of current events..." Several folds and pencil notations; foxing in several spots; one small piece of paper missing from the removal of the wax seal on the address leaf on the back page. Good condition.

Sometime controversial son-in-law of Charles Carroll of Carrolton who history now suggests may have had encounters with the British during the War of 1812.
