Description: 2 pages (front and back), 7 x 4.25 inches, Belgrave Square, Londonm no date, circa 1910. In this letter, Kitchener declines to be considered a candidate for election, in full: "I am much obliged to you for the offer of bringing forward my name - but as I said time ago - I thought it better to take my name off the list of candidates. I do not see any reason to change." Light mounting remnants along the left margin (with no loss of content); otherwise fine condition.
Comments: Irish-born British Field Marshall and proconsul who won fame for his imperial campaigns and later played a central role in the early part of the First World War. He was killed while aboard the H.M.S. Hampshire when it struck a German mine on June 5, 1916.Signed: Y
