Description: Fantastic early 1970s photograph signed "Stanley Clarke," no place, no date, circa 1972, 10 x 8 inches, black-and-white, showing Clarke playing an early electric bass, sporting an afro and goatee, and wearing black leather pants and an opened bell-sleeved shirt. Photographed by acclaimed lens man Henry Diltz, whose large back stamp with address and phone number appears on the back. Diltz, having photographed Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock and the album cover for Morrison Hotel by the Doors, undoubtedly combined aspects of both Hendrix and Morrison when he posed Clarke for this picture. This image is not available from the photographer and has not been published in any book. Fine condition.

Comments: American jazz composer and bass player who is best known as one of the founders of "Fusion" music in the 1970's. He remains today as one of the very few Jazz musicians to have actually gained "superstar" status.

I flew to NY from CA a couple of weeks ago, and while walking 59th, happened upon Argosy... Amazing! I had very little wiggle room in my time between meetings, but I made sure I came back the next morning, also. I'm so impressed, and reading about the family history of the store impressed me even more. Thank you for having such a marvelous bastion of knowledge there in the city! I was truly impressed. - Wil S.
